Flat is the limited local belief.
Spherical is the dogmatic global belief.
The globe gnostic knows it's the Non Euclidean conclusion.

"How did anyone know how big a degree is?"
Picard 1669, Cassini getting the shape backwards, Maupertuis in Lapland, the Peru party, Delambre north / Méchain south, Méchain hiding three seconds of arc.
That was Then: Here's our chance to use modern methods and all the tools we have at our disposal.
“Do one degree this weekend.”
Do what? Park, GPS, ruler on the printed parallels, Polaris as a check. Find 2 locations, measure distance. Take part, get out there and measure the earth.
“Same latitude, different longitudes.”
1° of latitude at 53°N should be the same number of miles in Cheshire as in Lincolnshire as in Poland. Longitude should barely matter. That is a clean prediction. 69ing the globe is a global pursuit, together we grow.

The instrument here is the scale map, bring your own, this measurement will be yours.
The assumptions
(a) maps are locally accurate for horizontal distance,
(b) GPS reports the same latitude the map printed,
(c) Polaris altitude is in the same degree.
69ing the globe will test (a) and (b) tightly and (c) loosely
All results will be published, we're after the data, it will be open to all. More data means more knowledge.

The real globe is the reality we all live in.
Everyone knows that they live in reality but how closely do you relate your life to the real globe?
In truth no one needs to think about the real globe, it's just there, it's all around you everyday, the real globe is just with you at all times as nature is.
Everyone knows tis globe, no one needs to question this.
